school that promotes the good life – both academically and socially
Næstved
gymnasium & HF is one of the largest high schools/upper secondary schools
in Denmark. In 2003-04 the school was enlarged and
renovated. Thus we now have state-of-the-art science rooms, computer rooms,
lecture rooms, music and sports facilities. Moreover, a brand new canteen,
library and modern study areas are at our disposal.
The school
emphasizes the importance of maintaining a high academic level, while at the
same time establishing close links with the outside world – locally, regionally
and internationally. The atmosphere of the high school is characterized by
openness, tolerance and a strong democratic tradition, giving the students a
high degree of influence both in the running of the high school on a daily
basis and in matters concerning its future development.
Næstved
gymnasium & HF also stresses the importance of modern teaching methods with
periods of project teaching as an approach at all levels both in the traditional
subjects and in interdisciplinary sequences. IT constitutes a natural part of
the learning process, and the school provides plenty of opportunity for this
with up-to-date IT facilities with Internet access at all IT workstations and laptops. Practically all
subjects offer virtual tuition.
Socializing
at the school continues after normal teaching hours when the students are
offered the opportunity to study music and art or practice various sports. All
weekdays after teaching hours there is a homework café with assistance provided
by qualified teaching staff. Furthermore, students are encouraged to
participate in the school play production, and in addition the school arranges
parties and concerts. Finally, once a month, Café Cosmos offers relaxed get-togethers
organized by the students themselves.
